Climate is Changing Why Aren’t We?

  • Imagine holding a melting ice cream cone that melts before you eat it.
    Oh, what a disaster!
Yes, the world is also going through one such disaster i.e. climate change because of the melting of the earth in a similar way.

Jokes apart, but how is the melting of ice cream related to the melting of the earth?

The answer is melting glaciers. Glaciers across the world are melting rigorously every passing minute due to changes in climate patterns each passing year and what are we doing to conserve nature? Nothing.

This is one of the major current issues in the world in the form of global warming and greenhouse emissions. We are well aware that emissions and global warming are some of the trending issues on our planet.

How do these issues cost us daily?

The major example of the effects of climate change on humans daily is the change in weather at a global level. The changing weather conditions affect the daily living of humans because of the unpredictability of the same.

Countries with colder atmospheres are now changing to warmer countries but the major risk of climate change lies with countries with excessive humidity as India making them even higher temperature regions every year.

India is facing serious issues of global warming and other phenomenon on a greater scale than other countries around the world. But what are the reasons for this change?

The answer is excessive human interference and alterations of the natural environment. We are our destroyers. Human activities are important contributors to climate change in the world, but how?

Let us understand the causes below:

  • Generating power

Burning of fossil fuels for the generation of energy has been a major contributor to climate change and hence every country in the world needs to be cautious about the conservation of such fuels to overcome the problem of global warming and resource scarcity at the same time.

    Manufacturing goods:

The manufacturing industry produces maximum pollutants which are accumulated in water, soil, air, etc. This has adverse effects on climate potentially leading to the degradation of natural resources and in turn resulting in global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. The gases and wastes excreted from the chimneys and water lead to harmful effects on the environment not just in the short term but also in the long run.

    Using transportation

One of the important causes of emissions and misuse of technology is transportation. Vehicles like buses, cars, and other public and private transports lead to maximum emission of gasses in the atmosphere which is converted into layers around the earth that trap excessive heat from the sun’s rays. This leads to global warming and the degradation of the air we breathe which is hazardous to health.

    Producing food

The food production industry is also very important from the point of view of contributors to climate change. This is because of industries that produce FMCG products which are produced in environments where wastage is maximum, e.g. sugar industry, here the process is sometimes tedious and toxic to the environment. Hence it is one of the major causes of climate change throughout the world.

Now let us understand the effects of these activities on the environment:

    Increase in temperature:

Rising temperatures are among the major effects of human activities on the environment. The emission of gases is causing the greenhouse effect of the environment leading to trapping of excessive heat from the sun making it difficult to withstand current conditions. This also happens due to phenomenon like ozone layer depletion due to pollution and the release of hazardous chemicals into the air in the form of toxic gases.

    Natural Calamities:

Due to the rising temperatures, the phenomenon of melting glaciers and burning of rainforests is also increasing gradually leading to loss of life, vegetation, and several other hazards. This is nature's way of giving away toxicity which was caused due to human activities like cutting trees and the devastation of natural resources like mountains and terrains. It is nature’s way of making us realize the need for a change of way of using natural resources and uplifting the environmental need for reducing toxicity and pollution.

    Droughts and floods:

Some important effects of climate change are drought and floods. In some places, droughts have taken away the capacity of farmers to produce food while there are places where floods have been flowing away entire fields, crops, and also animals. It is becoming a global crisis to control floods and address the issue of drought for many economies on a larger scale.

    Loss of species

The extinction of species is another effect of global warming and climate change. Loss of species can affect biodiversity and the ecosystem. This also affects the food chain which is crucial for the running of an ecosystem and maintaining life on earth.

Considering all the above it is important to consider the topic of our blog “The climate is changing, why aren’t we?” very seriously. Unless we change our ways of producing, consuming, and disposing of goods, services, and natural resources it is impossible to tackle the situation of destructed environment and reduced quality of living.
